Activity Description
This course provides participants with an understanding of executive functions in children, how they develop and present, how to assess them and how to treat executive functions deficits in children with a wide variety of developmental communication disorders.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the components of, anatomy, and physiology of executive functions
- Describe how brain and executive functions develop and impact the growth of cognitive skills and self-control
- Explain the components of executive functions disorders and the relationship to three other developmental disorders
- Describe assessment techniques for executive functions
- Explain seven variables to consider when developing a treatment plan

Author Biography
Jill Fahy, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a member of the faculty at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. At Eastern, Jill teaches graduate courses in developmental executive functions, motor speech disorders, and clinical methods. Her clinical caseload includes overseeing therapy services for a wide range of children and adolescents with deficits in executive functions, all of whom are working to develop adaptive life skills for the future.
