A LinguiSystems author story!

Meet Linda Mulstay-Muratore.

Linda Mulstay-Muratore, M.A., CCC-SLP, became a LinguiSystems author for the first time nearly 10 years ago when we published her Autism & PDD Answering Questions Level 1 and Level 2 books.  Since then, we've published four additional works by Linda: No-Glamour Listening Comprehension, Reinforcers To Go, Peek and Speak for Apraxia, and most recently, Preschool Apraxia Cards.

Linda has worked as an SLP since her graduation in 1996 from St. John's University in New York.  She currently works for a private practice in New York where she treats infant, preschool, and school-age children with a variety of speech and language therapy needs.  Most recently, Linda has developed a series of successful social skills groups for the practice, targeting children ages 3- to 12-years-old with social and language disorders.

With so much on her plate, we're thankful she makes time to write new materials and share her wonderful ideas with you, her colleagues.

Here's a brief look at Linda's publishing experience with LinguiSystems:

LS:

What is the biggest hurdle you overcame to submit your first idea to us for possible publication?

Linda:

My own fear!  I thought it might take too much time or be too complicated a process.  Nothing could have been further from the truth—the entire process of submitting original materials, hashing out ideas to make a better product, and editing is pleasant and easy.  A lot of that has to do with the positive feedback and attitude from your staff.

LS:

Why did you choose LinguiSystems to publish your materials?

Linda:

I've always loved your materials and am thrilled to have you as my publisher!  Your company is innovative and always seems to be coming out with newer and better products.  Plus, you have such a large customer base; it's the best way to reach a lot of consumers.

LS:

What do you like best about the submission process?

Linda:

I like that your staff is able to see the potential in an idea and make it even better.  When I first started working as an SLP, I made all of my own materials because I hadn't made any money yet, I was paying off student loans, and I couldn't afford to buy anything!  I kept all of those homemade materials and years later put a book together, taking a chance that something could be made out of it.  Although my submission was very raw and the drawings were like that of a fourth grader, you saw the potential in my ideas and helped me develop them into a marketable product.

LS:

What would you tell prospective authors about the editing/production process that takes place after ideas are accepted for publication?

Linda:

Everyone I've worked with at LinguiSystems is so friendly, positive, and flexible.  My editors include me in every step of the editing and production process and are very respectful and fair in regard to editing decisions.  At the end of the day, although LinguiSystems is producing and publishing the product and you may be many miles from the actual LinguiSystems building (as I am in New York), you still feel part of the LinguiSystems "family."

LS:

What advice would you give to prospective authors who think they have a marketable product idea?

Linda:

Go for it!  If the idea works in your therapy room, it could help many other therapists and their clients around the world.
