Activity Description

This course provides milestones for development of question asking and answering skills in young children.  Pre- and post-testing is described and results are discussed.  Strategies and practical therapy ideas are given for teaching each of the question types for individual and group therapy.

Activity Audience

This course is for Speech-Language Pathologists.

Learning Outcomes

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • List developmental milestones in question answering and asking in young children.
  • Explain strategies for teaching children to answer different types of questions.
  • Plan individual and group therapy for teaching children to answer and ask a variety of questions.

Host Requirements

  1. Have a minimum of five participants.
  2. Schedule your DVDs for Groups with LinguiSystems a minimum of 30 days prior to your in-service.  LinguiSystems is unable to accept late registrations.

Author Biography

Lynn K. Flahive, M.S., CCC-SLP, has over 30 years experience as a speech-language pathologist.  She worked in private and public schools in Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, and Texas for 12 years before joining the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.  Lynn has special interests in working with early childhood and early elementary-aged children with phonological and/or language delays.

Lynn is a Board Recognized Specialist in Child Language.  She is an ASHA Fellow, past President of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA), and past Executive Director of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).

Janet R. Lanza, M.S., CCC-SLP, has worked as a speech-language pathologist in public schools, private practice, and a university clinic in Texas since 1976.  She has been on the faculty of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, since 1989.  At the TCU Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic, Janet is an instructor and clinical supervisor for classroom settings of preschool children with a variety of communication disorders.

Lynn and Janet have co-authored numerous products for LinguiSystems.  They also present workshops nationally and in Canada on the topics of practical and motivational speech and language therapy for young children.
