Activity Description
This course provides a comprehensive view of processing disorders and how to differentiate among them. Participants will gain a better understanding of how different processing disorders affect academic performance and communication development. Specific remediation strategies for multiple types of processing disorders are also reviewed. This course offers 0.8 CEUs / 8 CEEs.

Learner Objectives
Participants who successfully complete this activity will be able to:
- Identify and define important neurological features associated with processing and learning
- Differentiate between central auditory processing disorders and language processing disorders
- Provide several preschool precursors for language processing problems
- Compare and contrast a central auditory processing assessment and a language processing assessment
- Supply multiple strategies that can be implemented for remediation of auditory processing and language processing disorders
Author Biography
Gail J. Richard, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor and Department Chair at Eastern Illinois University in Communication Disorders and Sciences. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, Master of Science from Eastern Illinois University, and Doctorate in Communication Disorders from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Gail's first professional employment was in the Iowa public schools as a speech-language pathologist where she worked with children with language-learning disabilities and preschoolers with emotional disorders. After four years in the schools, Gail joined the faculty at Eastern Illinois University where she has been a clinical supervisor and instructor dealing with various childhood language disabilities for 25 years.
