Activity Description
This course describes the term evidence-based practice (EBP) and its goals in the speech-language pathology field. The components of EBP are identified, as well as its applicability across all clinical settings. The steps in the EBP process are described in detail, and resources are given so that immediate implementation of EBP is possible.

Learner Objectives
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- define the term evidence-based practice and what its goals are.
- identify the necessary components of evidence-based practice (EBP).
- identify five areas in which evidence-based practice is beneficial.
- define the components of the PICO approach and how this approach is implemented in the EBP process
- describe an evidence hierarchy, its purpose and components, and how its utilized in the EBP process.
Author Biography
Linda Bowers, M.A., is a co-founder and co-owner of LinguiSystems. Linda worked as a speech-language pathologist in the public schools from 1974-1982 and has experience serving language disordered students of all ages. Linda has spent the last thirty years as a test researcher and writer.
Rosemary Huisingh, M.A., is co-founder and co-owner of LinguiSystems. Rosemary worked as a speech-language pathologist in the public schools from 1970-1984 and has experience serving primarily elementary language disordered students. Rosemary has spent the last thirty years as a researcher and writer of tests and therapy materials.
Carolyn LoGiudice, M.A., CCC-SLP, has been Editor-in-Chief at LinguiSystems since 1986. Before then, she worked as a speech-language pathologist at the Scottish Rite Institute in San Francisco and with the Alameda School District in Alameda, California. Carolyn has participated in test research and writing since joining the LinguiSystems staff.
