Activity Description
This course is designed to help the SLP learn more about AD/HD and its relationship to Executive Functions. A thorough description of the disorder is provided, along with conclusions from current research and practical suggestions for assessment, behavior management, and adaptations for clients ages birth to adult.

This presentation is for Speech-Language Pathologists.
Learner Objectives
Participants will learn to:
- Identify the operational definitions for attention and executive functions
- Understand the diagnostic criteria, core symptoms, and subtypes of AD/HD
- Identify the EF deficits inherent to AD/HD
- Discuss the role of the SLP in treating individuals with AD/HD and associated EF deficits
Author Biography
Clare B. Jones, Ph.D., was a Diagnostic Specialist in private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Jones received her undergraduate degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; her master's from Cleveland State University; and her Ph.D. from the University of Akron. She did post doctorate work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Jones was in private practice for over fifteen years and specialized in children, young adults, and adults with special needs ages zero to adult. Her areas of expertise included attention disorders, learning disabilities, and drug exposed children.
Dr. Jones authored seven books, including The Source for Brain-Based Learning and Practical Suggestions for AD/HD, both published by LinguiSystems, Inc. She also served as editor to three books and published numerous articles. She was on the editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Attention Disorders and served on the editorial Internet Board for ADDitude Magazine. She also served on the Professional Advisory Board for CHADD. Her family has established a scholarship in her memory at the University of Arizona.
Jill Fahy, M.A., CCC-SLP, is assistant professor at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston, IL. She earned a bachelor's degree in French before pursuing her master's degree in speech pathology from the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign. For a number of years, Ms. Fahy worked as a medical SLP, treating mostly adults with acquired brain injuries. She specialized in the treatment of cognitive impairments resulting from frontal lobe and right hemisphere lesions, particularly those high-level deficits that impacted vocational and community independence.
Jill is co-author of The SourceŽ for Development of Executive Functions, published by LinguiSystems, Inc. She is a nationally-known speaker on the topic of executive function development and disorders. At Eastern Illinois University, she is a highly sought-after diagnostician for children with disorders of right hemisphere development and concomitant executive function deficits, primarily for Asperger's and Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Ms. Fahy teaches courses in acquired language disorders, and developmental disorders of executive functions and the right hemisphere.
