Support by Product Title

CDs packaged with LinguiSystems books

  • The CD won’t autostart and nothing happens.

Autostart may not be enabled on your machine.  There also seems to be an issue with Adobe Reader 8.1 and the content on our CDs that prevents it from launching automatically.  You will need to open the file manually.  Click the “Start” button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen (Windows users), then select “Programs” or “All Programs,” find Adobe Reader and launch it.  Then choose “File,” “Open” in Adobe Reader, locate the CD drive, and open the product’s .pdf file.

  • “The file D:\[product name].pdf was not found” error appears

You must have Adobe Reader installed on your machine to view the files on the CD.  You can download Adobe Reader free from adobe.com.

  • Printed output contains black boxes or “doesn’t look right.”
    How to fix

Ensure that you have the most current print drivers installed.  Try printing on other printers.

    Alternate Fix

Change a print setting in Reader to “Print as an Image” on the problem printer.

    1. Open Adobe Reader
    2. Open the PDF of the book in Reader
    3. Click File
    4. Click Print
    5. Click Advanced
    6. Put a check mark in "Print as an Image"

You will have to change these settings set each time you restart Reader.

  • Specific page number selected in print dialog box doesn’t print.  Another page prints instead.

If you want to print individual pages from a CD you can't do it by page number because the pages numbers are different.  Bring up the page you want to print, go to File, go to Print, and click on Current page.  Just ignore the page numbers and hit ok.  This will give you the page on your screen.

Uninstall the program and then reinstall it.  (Warning: previously entered user data will be lost).

When the program starts up, don’t create a new user, just exit the program again.  Restart the program, login and create a new user, exit the program.  Start the program one more time, click on the red and white box that appears twice and it should not appear again.

If problem persists, call and we will send a new version of the product that does not include this database bug.

Phonological Awareness Test 2 Scoring Software

  • Nothing happens when Print/Save button is clicked

On Windows, launching the application directly from the install program causes this problem (the last thing the install program does is ask “Do you want to launch PAT-2?”).

Quit the program using Windows Task Manager, if necessary (your data will be saved) and restart the program.  Then select the the previous student name and record and then click on Save/Print.  The problem should be fixed.

  • Unable to enter the birthdate/the chronological age is not calculated

You must have administrator rights to the data folder to enter the birthdate and accurately calculate chronological age.

See your network administrator or technical services support person to grant you administrator rights to the “C:\Program Files\LinguiSystems\” folder (in Windows).  Once those rights are granted, all LinguiSystems products will work correctly.  The minimum rights you need is for the “C:\Program Files\LinguiSystems\Program Files\Phonological Awareness Test 2\data folder.

  • Printouts from Version 1.0 of software contain a watermark.

You should have received a Version 1.1 of the software in Fall 2007.  If not, call for the latest version.

The 1.0 version contained a licensing bug that causes the watermark to appear 1 year after the initial install.  That issue has been resolved with the latest release.  Please contact our customer support for saving previously entered data before installing the new version.

  • My firewall program alerts me that a program is trying to access the Internet or similar message.

The Phonological Awareness Test 2 Scoring Software uses an internal print server program that makes your computer think it is accessing an outside service, which is not the case.

Generally, if you permit your firewall access to this program, it will create a rule to allow the function to run in the future.  If you need to manually configure access through your firewall program, permit the application “CreatorServer.exe” to run on port 4000.

Spotlight Series

  • (Spotlight on Vocabulary Level 1) A box that should contain a picture is blank when the screen loads

This bug is rare, but may appear when you move through the program at a quick pace or click on the screen before it fully loads.  Rolling your mouse over the empty box will usually refresh the image.  If that does not fix the issue, restart the lesson, and the image will likely appear on restart.

Story Comprehension To Go

  • Problems installing program Version 1.15 on Windows

Quit Program if running. Double-click “My Computer” icon on screen.  Double click CD drive labeled “StoryCompToGoCD.”  In the right-hand pane, double-click “Install.exe” file to install the program.

  • Problems installing program Version 1.15 on Mac

There is a bug in the installer for some versions of Mac OS 9 or 10.  If you receive an error message while attempting to install, copy the entire contents of the CD to a new folder on your hard drive and associate an alias on your desktop with the program launch application.
