Ages: 6-11 Grades: 1st-6th

The U.S. Department of Labor identifies five competencies and three foundation skills that are essential for those entering the workplace. Listening is identified as one of these foundation skills (A SCANS Report for America, 2000). The SCANS Report states that children need the basic skill of listening (receiving, attending to, interpreting and responding to verbal messages and other cues) in order to succeed in school, in social situations, and, later in the workplace.
