Test Purpose
The TOWL 4 is a diagnostic test that measures many aspects of writing and identifies a student's strengths and weaknesses and the degree of the student's problem.

Test Procedure
Begin by obtaining the written story.  Show the student the appropriate colored picture card and say the directions given in the Examiner's Manual.  You will score the story after the test is administered in its entirety.  Proceed to the first Subtest.  Administer each item until a ceiling is reached.  A ceiling is obtained on the contrived subtests only.  Use the student's story to score Contextual Conventions and Story Composition subtests.


Examiner Qualifications
This test can be administered and interpreted by examiners who have formal training in assessment and are familiar with written language development and disorders.
