Assess and analyze phonological deviations of children with highly unintelligible speech with the HAPP-3.
This test provides specific information about a student's substitutions and omissions of sounds. The test incorporates pattern-oriented analyses to identify broad patterns of deviations. Compensation strategy analysis assesses the way in which the student substitutes or uses other strategies to compensate for poor articulation.

Record the testing session in order to verify transcriptions. As the student names objects and pictures, transcribe the speech deviations using the Comprehensive Phonological Evaluation Record Form, Section 10. If the student has sufficient phonological deviations to warrant further testing, use the Preschool Phonological Screening and/or the Multisyllabic Word Screening instruments included in the Test Set.
This test may be administered and interpreted by professionals who have good phonetic transcription skills, have received instruction in phonetics, phonology, and diagnostic evaluation procedures; and have knowledge and experience with speech sound assessments.
