Test Examiner FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When will new test examiner opportunities be offered?

Our mission as the ultimate publisher of tests for speech-language pathologists is to give our customers superior service and support.  We will continue to add new testing opportunities each year.  If you are a registered test examiner, you will receive email announcements each time a new test opportunity becomes available.

What do I get for participating?

Compensation includes:

  • $75 in product credit for EACH subject completed (and used in the study)
  • Acknowledgment in the Examiner’s Manual
  • Knowing that you helped define normative, standardized data for industry standard assessments
  • Test examiners who test 5 or more subjects also receive a free copy of the test they helped standardize

When can I use my product credit?

Product credit is issued after a specific phase of testing has closed.  For example, if the standardization phase of a test is open from September through December, you will receive your product credit in December.  We reserve the right to extend testing dates and postpone credit release dates at any time.

Why do I have to wait until testing is over to receive my credit?

We need to make sure we have enough subjects completed for data analysis before we can issue credit.  We issue all credits at the same time (once the study dates have closed).

When will my test credit expire?

Test credits expire one year from the date they are issued.

Why do you ask for my ASHA number and/or state licensure number during registration?

We added this step because professionals in fields other than speech-language pathology were registering as test examiners.  Test examiners must hold a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology (American Psychological Association, Code of Fair Testing Practices).  In order to maintain our high level of standards in testing, we updated our registration forms to include ASHA and state licensure information.  Find out more about entering your licensure information below.

Do I need to enter both my ASHA number and my state licensure number to participate?

No.  You can enter either your ASHA license number OR your state license number.  We know that every state has different licensure requirements.  If your state does not require a license to practice, you may enter a teaching certificate number or other state certification number in the state licensure field on the registration form.  We welcome all Master’s level SLPs to participate.

I’m not a member of ASHA, can I still participate?

Yes.  You can enter your state licensure number.  We know that every state has different licensure requirements.  If your state does not require a license to practice, you may enter your teaching certificate number or other state certification number in the state licensure field on the registration form.  We welcome all Master’s level SLPs to participate.

I’m a graduate student, can I register to become a test examiner?

No.  The American Psychological Association (1985, Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing) specifically states that those clinicians participating in standardized testing must hold the highest clinical degree in the specific field of the standardized test.  Our tests are primarily for speech-language pathologists, which means testers must hold a Master's degree or higher in that field.

I’m in my clinical fellowship year (CFY), can I participate in testing?

No, not yet.  You need to finish your clinical fellowship year before you can participate in our testing program.  Please continue to visit our website and register to become a test examiner after you have completed your clinical fellowship year.

I live outside of the U.S., can I participate in testing?

No.  We exclude test examiners and subjects that live outside of the U.S. because our tests reflect the current U.S. Census Bureau data in terms of demographics.  Click here for more information on demographic data.

What computer program do I need to participate?

To print out the forms using Adobe you must have a recent version (5.0 or above).  Adobe Reader is free and allows you to download the test forms.  The test forms print in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).  To acquire Adobe Reader, go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/

How do I find subjects to test?

You are responsible for finding subjects that match the demographic specifications on our subject selection chart (age, gender, race/ethnicity, and education setting).  Please refer to the Subject Criteria Agreement on our website and/or Tips for Recruiting Subjects to find out more.

How will I know if LinguiSystems needs me to test more subjects?

Check the subject selection charts often.  When a test is live on our website and you are registered, you can view the subject selection charts at any time.

How many subjects can I test?

There is no limit.  You can test one subject or 50 subjects – it’s up to you how much time you can commit to our testing process.  You may only select up to 5 active subjects at a time.

How do I keep track of my completed subjects?

You will have an online account that lists all of your current subjects.  A subject moves from your “Active Subjects” list to your “Completed Subjects” list once we’ve received the online data.  You can get to your subject lists by logging on to the test examiner website.

How will I know if one of my subjects is not used in the study?

Most subjects completed by our test examiners are included in the study.  If we have reason to believe that a subject’s information was entered incorrectly or that the test data is invalid, then we reserve the right to eliminate that subject. If a subject is eliminated from the study we will notify you via email BEFORE the credit release date.

I’m busy and can’t get my subjects tested within the timelines.  Can I get an extension?

If you are unable to complete testing within the initial two week deadline, please email testing@linguisystems.com to request an extension.  Exceptions include extensions beyond the close of the test dates and retest extensions.

How do I access the items to test?  Will I receive anything from LinguiSystems through the mail?

You access everything online from the convenience of your home or office.  Permission forms and test forms can be downloaded and printed directly from the website.  If a test requires additional components for testing (i.e., picture stimuli book, CD), then we will notify you of that during subject selection.
